Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Melfort’s Community Infrastructure
MELFORT, April 9, 2013 – Today, Randy Hoback, Member of Parliament for Prince Albert, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support to upgrade the Melfort and District Senior Citizens Club under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“Our Government is pleased to support infrastructure projects across the country like the Melfort and District Senior Citizens Club,” said MP Hoback. “The Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund will benefit Canadian families and communities immediately, helping to support job creation, boosting economic activity, as well as creating safe and accessible community infrastructure facilities for years to come.”
The Harper Government’s investment of $8,650 will be used to install insulation and metal siding at the Senior Citizens Club, and to repair the broken concrete in the parking lot. These upgrades will help to improve the energy efficiency and safety of the building.
“We are pleased that our application for the federal funding was accepted,” said Bob Duns, Treasurer and Building Committee member, Melfort and District Senior Citizens Club. “The upgrades will improve the appearance and safety of the building, and repairing the parking lot will improve the accessibility and safety of our facility.”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
