NDP Defends Canadian Citizenship for Terrorists
OTTAWA, June 13, 2013 – The NDP continues its support of protecting terrorists by preventing amendments to MP Devinder Shory’s bill – An Act to amend the Citizenship Act (honouring the Canadian Forces). Once amended, MP Shory’s bill will strengthen the integrity of Canadian citizenship and bring Canada back in line with the rest of the free world. It will also send a clear message that Canadian citizenship cannot be used as a flag of convenience by violent terrorists.
“There is no clearer rejection of Canadian citizenship and the values upon which it is founded than committing a terrorist act,” said Randy Hoback, MP for the federal riding of Prince Albert “The NDP is completely ignoring the Air India 182 Victims’ Families Association, Muslim Canadian Congress, Canadian Coalition Against Terrorism, and many others who strongly support MP Shory’s bill. “
“Our Government is committed to strengthening the value of Canadian citizenship and we do not think convicted terrorists deserve the privilege of calling themselves Canadian,” added MP Hoback.
