Harper Government Invests in Improvements to the John M. Cuelenaere Library under the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund

April 11, 2013

Prince Albert-20130411-00676PRINCE ALBERT, April 11, 2013 – Today, Randy Hoback, Member of Parliament for Prince Albert, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the John M. Cuelenaere Library under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

“Our Government is pleased to support infrastructure projects across the country like Prince Albert’s public library,” said MP Hoback. “Our investments in facilities such as this one will benefit Canadian families and communities immediately, helping to support job creation, boosting economic activity, as well as creating safe and accessible community infrastructure facilities for years to come.”

The Harper Government’s investment of $100,150 will enhance the children’s services provided by the John M. Cuelenaere branch of Prince Albert’s public library.  The reconfiguration of the children’s area, as well as the installation of new flooring and fixtures, will enhance the safety and comfort of the space for Prince Albert and area children.

John M. Cuelenaere Library board member Ted Zurakowski said, “I want to acknowledge what a benefit the CIIF funding has been, particularly in the first phase of renovations planned for the main floor of the library.  Our children’s section is a very busy place and the upgrades with bold colours of paint and a new Story Corner and Craft Room will help children be more comfortable and add to their visit to our library.”

In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.

Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
