Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Community Infrastructure in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan
Randy Hoback, Member of Parliament for Prince Albert, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for upgrades to the Birch Hills Civic Centre under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“I am proud to see Birch Hills benefit from our Government’s support for community infrastructure,” said MP Hoback. “This investment will help create jobs and growth, and will support the prosperity of the community for years to come.”
Thanks to $33,650 in federal funding, upgrades will be made to the Birch Hills Civic Centre, enhancing the building’s energy efficiency to ensure its longevity. Improvements will include the installation of a new ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. The Town of Birch Hills Civic Centre is the hub of community activities and these improvements will help ensure the continued delivery of quality programming and services to the community.
“This facility is in constant use by the community,” said Shirley Ulvild, Birch Hills Mayor. “New heating and air conditioning will be a great improvement, allowing us to provide a more welcoming environment for visitors and patrons year-round. Thanks to all involved in the project.”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
